Perceptions of the Leader
"The leader eats last, and speaks last," encompasses the sentiment of the day. Lencioni communicated 5 dysfunctions of the team based on the leadership they perceive. Trust is not just essential, but paramount to the success of the organization. It must be a part of the overall mission and dictate the vision set forth by the leaders. Covey also represented the importance of trust as an inspiring quality. The leader must clarify the purpose, unleash talent, and align the systems but all must trust must be foundational to the consistency of the team.
The role of the leader represents perception. It is difficult for me to balance challenge and emotional connection. At times, I have been the appeaser in fear of losing relationship. I also have been the avoider not providing enough challenge, essentially taking on the entire weight of the whole system. I am not an intimidator personality. The day of class truly made me reflect on the balance of challenge and emotional connection empowering me to prioritize the balance between the two to result as a true leader for my team.
