Perspective becomes reality

Strategic Leadership intricately encompasses pre- planning and goal setting. It begins by taking the time to format a plan and setting goals. Implementation of the strategic plan cannot occur if time has not been purposely made to design the best steps to accomplish the goals of the organization. This begins by setting a strong foundation of strong principles that communicate the vision and mission of the organization. As Schlechty's 5 metaphors of schools communicated, this is not simply goal setting but perception emphasized. The goals and dreams must be envisioned in the planning for the success of the organization. One important detail is to set up the plans with the ultimate goal in mind. In eduction this is more than educating students but involves involvement of all stakeholders from the custodian to the superintendent. Recognition of the customer, the student and their family, as well as the teachers themselves, it is significant of communicating the vision of a great school.
Reflecting on this first week of readings and activities, there are many points for which I positively connected with the content. Examining the 5 metaphors gave me cause to pause to reflect on the perception of my stakeholders and those observing the group. I recognized my own controlling thoughts about parents, realizing what appears to me, to be fear of not measuring up to the expectations of parents and my customer. There are many elements to be cognizant of including academic improvement, but also emotional and spiritual growth. One important point to be perceptive of that the expectation of my varied stakeholders may differ, therefore, communicating my strategic plan is essential to meeting the perceptions and expectations of those involved, including the teachers and staff as well as the students and families.
