Culture and Cost Benefit Analysis
Culture is the tone set for the whole organization. Per Drucker states, " Culture eats strategy for breakfast." This means that the greatest plans do not overcome the culture set. People do not quit companies or leaders but their culture represents the overwhelming power of culture. It's about the people, Todd Whitaker proclaims. The leader must have influence over their culture which is the heart and soul of the school. Future learning is dependent on communication, critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration. These are essential components of the culture of the organization. Their must be commitment from the students meeting the balance of cost benefit analysis. Daniel Pink suggested that the order of success begins with autonomy to mastery and then purpose, but truly purpose must be the first step to meet the needs of engagement for students.
I believe the culture of the school sets the entire tone of the day, week, month, and entire year. It must permeate throughout the entire year and be a commitment of the whole team. The leader begins by communicating purpose and then seeks mastery with finally autonomy for the staff and students. Students are constantly evaluating and analyzing the cost and benefit an assignment poses to their future. Engaging students requires investment from students and development of a culture that balances reasonable choice, challenge, and even distribution of frustration and success. The leader reflects acknowledgment of the culture by being sensitive to the balance of the entire organization.
