Beliefs, Vision, and Mission
Examining the pattern of beliefs, vision, and mission development is systematic. It begins with a belief or thought and grows. The vision of an organization sets the tone and creates the visual for the direction of the group. Mission statements are the guiding principles as an element of strategic execution of the beliefs established. The three combine to direct the values of the team. Jackson (2021) describes a vision statement as a promise, "the vision statement for your school is the promise you and
everyone at your school make to the students. It tells everyone what
you were building together as a community and promises students and
their families that if they entrust themselves to your school, this is a
result they can expect”. Yukl (2013) describes a mission statement as the words that show the purpose of the organization leading the actions that will be implemented for the customer while the vision is an image of what can be achieved and shows value and achievement. They are worthwhile goals to be accomplished.
In education, the customer is the students and their families, yet administrators forget this when strategic plans are developed. Additionally, the teachers and staff are clients to be honored and appreciated. Beliefs, vision, and mission of the school need to involve all the stakeholders to be appreciated and fully executed. The state of education is a hot topic consistently addressed and argued. The entire tone of a school or campus can be experienced when addressing the strategic planning and thought put into the goals for the organization. These goals must be observable and reflect a reasonable timetable for implementation to be fully embraced. They must also reflect the thoughts and dreams of all stakeholders to be achievable. We must value all constituents from the student to the superintendent and show that everyone's opinion is valued.
